The Pseudo-L.E. Cell Phenomenon, with Report of a Case

N. B. KURNICK 1

1 Veterans Administration Hospital, Long Beach, and the University of California, Department of Medicine, Los Angeles, Calif.

An example of leuko-phagocytosis secondary to metastic bronchogenic carcinoma is presented. The transitory development of leukoagglutination and leukophagocytosis (pseudo-L.E. cell phenomenon) led to the erroneous diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus. The differentiation between the L.E. cell phenomenon and the pseudo-phenomenon is discussed.
